KANKANTRI Screening at Moving Body-Moving Image 2024
Gabri Christa's new film KANKANTRI will be featured at Moving Body - Moving Image 2024, on Friday October 11 at 6pm, as part of the public screening of specially selected films around the black body and environmental justice and the black / brown body relating to ancestry and history.
Moving Body-Moving Image 2024
Moving Body-Moving Image MOVES with the times, ever evolving. This year we are not producing a festival, but hosting the Digital Black Dance Ecologies Laboratory, an initiative from Dr. Tia -Monique Uzor. The invitation only Lab will take place from October 11-13, 2024 at the Barnard College Movement Lab.
In addition to the Laboratory, Moving Body-Moving Image will curate a two week long public installation at the Movement Lab with works of some of the participating DBDE Laboratory artists / researchers from October 7 - 10 and October 14 - 18.
On Friday October 11 at 6pm, there will be an additional public screening of specially selected films around the black body and environmental justice and the black / brown body relating to ancestry and history.
Workshop with Gabri Christa and "Sheila" Screening at Kenyon College
The Department of Dance, Drama and Film at Kenyon College welcomes guest artist Gabri Christa for a series of events Sept. 22 - 23. On Sunday September 22nd, Gabri will be leading a screendance seminar followed by a screening of her experimental documentary short Sheila and artist discussion. On Monday September 23rd, Gabri will teach a film and motion workshop.
Gabri at New Waves! Institute
Gabri Christa will show her films Kankantri and Sheila and will teach a screendance workshop at the University of The West Indies during the NEW WAVES! INSTITUTE, a gathering of dance artists, scholars, teachers, students, and leaders in the field of dance who embody the depth and spirit of contemporary dance and performance practice in the Caribbean and its Diasporas. In an organizing principle of ‘Emancipation’, New Waves! participants connect in essential ways that alters and brings out light in one another. Founded and Directed by Makeda Thomas.
Workshop with Gabri Christa and "Sheila" Screening at Dance Camera West
Gabri Christa is guest of honor at the 21st Annual Dance Camera West Festival, an international festival held in Los Angeles that presents the best dance films from around the world. On Saturday January 21st, Gabri will be leading a workshop and the festival closes with a presentation of Gabri’s films including her experimental documentary short Sheila and an artist discussion.
“Sheila” and the 2020 Moving Body-Moving Image Festival at Creative Brain Week
From Saturday to Wednesday March 12th-16th, Gabri Christa’s new experimental documentary Sheila and the 2020 Moving Body - Moving Image Festival: Aging & Othering will be presented as part of the Creative Programme at Creative Brain Week in Dublin, Ireland. Creative Brain Week is a Global Brain Health Institute initiative taking place across the digital and physical Campus of Trinity College Dublin.
dance/lens: a dance on camera workshop
dance/lens is a 6-week interdisciplinary workshop co-taught by Alexandra Beller and Gabri Christa, which will engage in both choreographic inquiry, creation and feedback, as well as learning narrative, dynamic, and personal approaches to creating dance for screen.

A virtual celebration for the publication of Dance We Do: A Poet Explores Black Dance taking place on Ntozake's Shange’s birthday. Gabri Christa moderates a panel discussion with dance scholars and practitioners, including several choreographers featured in the book: Dyane Harvey, Dianne McIntyre, and Halifu Osumare.

During this two day Institute, Gabri Christa presents an interactive session with tips and tools for connection using technology, with movement and imagination during isolation for people living with Dementia. Session is specifically designed for caregivers and family of people with limited mobility and hearing.
